Citrachoice is a solution used as an anticoagulant, containing citrate (regional citrate anticoagulation – RCA), during continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
The use of a citrate-containing solution in Continuous Renal Replacement Treatment (CRRT) practice provides clinically safe fluidization for the following reasons:
- it does not reach the patient’s circulation
- prevents even minimal episodes of clotting
- lowers the ionized calcium value, which is rebalanced in the patient by continuous infusion of CaCl
